Yesterday Howie had an appointment to see a Neurologist for a surgical consult. At this point, the prognosis of his condition is that he has Sacral Lumbar Root Nerve Disease. In layman’s terms, that means he has some type of compression on the nerves that are located in the lower part of his back, where his spine meets his pelvis. This is likely being caused by the fact that he has one more vertebrate in his spine then normal (this is a condition that is common in Bulldogs. They call it a transitional vertebrate).
He is scheduled to get a MRI and a CT Scan in the next two weeks. This will help the doctors determine where the compression on the nerves is occurring. Once they have this information, then surgery is the next course of action. In the meantime, the Neurologist prescribed him new medication that is stronger then what he was on before and is better indicated to manage the type of pain he is suffering.
Yavuz is dropping him off with me later this morning. I cant wait to see him again!
