Finally, WIRED magazine has made available on-line a story that appeared in their August 2005 issue titled "U2’s City of Blinding Lights ". The author……….none other than William Gibson. When I learned of the piece I thought "this cant get any better": my favorite author writing about one of my favorite bands in one of my favorite magazines!
I urge you to read the story, especially if you are a U2 fan. Gibson is afforded an inside look at the engineering and technology the band deploys behind their Megatours. One of the things that I thought was really interesting was Gibson’s interview with Willie Williams, U2’s big-ticket techno-designer. He told Gibson that U2 is
"…thinking of webcasting concerts through U2.com, but part of the deal would be if we (i.e. everyone at the concert) can watch them, through their home webcams."
Maybe its the voyeur in me….I think the above notion is brilliant!
