Rockport Sea Kayaking

Nsk_kayaks_at_wharf_1   Yesterday, Steph and I drove up to Rockport, MA. and rented Kayak’s for the afternoon.  The place where we rented from was called the North Shore Kayak Outdoor Center.  They are located on the waterfront area of Bearskin Neck.

Rockport_kayak_2   We decided to take a 2 hour sea kayak tour that started at 2pm.  It was to take us out of Rockport Harbor and down south to paddle around Straitsmouth Island (a 3 mile trip in total.  See chart on right.  I highlighted our route in red).  Unfortunately, everyone else decided to take a tour at this same time….our group ended up having over 25 people in it.

Lighthouse1_1   Regardless of the group size, we had a wonderful time!  We paddled a tandem, which allowed us to stay ahead of the mob when we wanted to.  This also allowed us to allow one person to focus on taking photos while the other navigated the boat.  It goes without saying there were a number of beautiful things to see:  The homes along the Rockport coastline, the sea fairing birds (e.g. Cormorants), the lighthouse on Straitsmouth Island, and the twin lighthouses on Thacher Island.
