I am happy to report that after 1.5 years of waiting, I was able to secure my families domain name (karnell.com). When I tried to buy the domain initially, it was already picked up by someone in Hong Kong. I ended up using a a service called SnapNames which allowed me to back order the address. For $60 they monitor when the domain is up for renewal and automatically buy it if the previous owners fail or forget too. I intend to develop a Karnell Family blog and gift it to everyone this year for Christmas.
