I arrived in Rome yesterday at around 2pm. After my 30 minute and very expensive cab ride to my hotel (80 EUROS!) I was able to set my luggage down and collapse on to a bed (The pic to the left is the view oustide my hotel room’s window). It was initially raining when I arrived, so I was not feeling that guilty about getting a power nap in (especially since I had not been to bed in about two days). However, just as I was heading hell bent into REM, beams of sun light began to shine through my window. The weather forecast for the rest of the time in Rome is overcast and rainy, so I gathered every inch of my energy to rally and head out on foot with camera in hand to explore.
My hotel is conveniently located next two the Circus Maximus, Palatine Hill, Collosseum, Arch of Constantine, The Colosseo, and the Roman Forum (pretty much what is considered to be Ancient Rome). This is where I spent all of my time photographing. I have uploaded the pics here:
First impressions: Aw Struck! The amount of history located in nothing more then a couple square miles is mind boggling. Unfortunately, my pictures are not going to be a good reflection of how beautiful it is here. One thing that has become tragically evident to me is that the Cannon SLR I am using completely owns me! Thank god I am headed to a photography workshop next week.
I arrived back in my hotel around 7:30pm, honestly ready to pass out. I uploaded the photos I took to my blog and ordered room service, as I was in no condition to head out again and try to find someplace to eat in public. I wound the evening down feeling a bit like Hemingway (I KNOW THAT IS CHEESY-DEAL). There I was, looking out my window over ancient Rome, enjoying a glass of wine, wishing I was in the company of a certain woman (you know who you are 😉 ). Then……sleep…..at last!
