Many of you know that I am a bit of a World War II buff. To that end, this day always holds a special meaning for me. On June 6th, 1944 (62 years ago today), armed forces from the United States, Great Britan, and Canada landed on five seperate beachheads in Normandy, France to begin the process of liberating Europe from Germany’s stranglehold.
In 2003, I had the opportunity to actually visit Normandy. Some of the most impacting and treasured memories came from experiencing Pegasus Bridge, the American Cemetery, Omaha/Gold/Sword/Juno Beaches, and the pot marked landscape of Ponte-du-hoc. You may enjoy photos from this trip by visiting two different Flickr sets I have uploaded:
- Normandy (May have to endure some non-WWII photos-but its worth it)
- Bunkers of WWII
As always, a warm thanks goes to all of those surviving and passed veterans who served then. Your sacrifice will never be forgotten.
