Having recently purchased Stéphane Pompougnac’s Hotel Costes 8 & 9, I wanted to take a moment to provide a positive review for both.
If your familiar with Pompougnac’s smooth urban lounge compilations, this CD may come as a shock. Out of all of his past work, this most resembles upbeat house then chill neojazz. I LOVE IT! Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with low key "yummy" lounge beats. But there are times when you just want to groove–and this mix is perfect for those times.
Although I did not immediately fall in love with this compilation as I did with #8, I have come to consider it as one of his top 5. I am not a big fan of the first couple tracks…but the rest of the compilation is dope. I particularly like Pompougnac’s version of "Blue Bird". I first heard this track via Habitat Collection’s Fireside. Great house track to dance too!
