Late yesterday afternoon Graham, Devin, and I finally arrived at Whistler. The trip sorta got off to a challenging start though. First, our friend Stephen was held up at immagration for nearly 3 hours before being told that he was not allowed in Canada due to a small misdemeanor he was charged with last year. SURREAL! He was turned around and forced to fly back to New York City! After Googling this, I did find some information provided by the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Consular Affairs that supported this crazy immigration rule.
Second, Air Canada lost half of Devin’s checked luggage. Adding insult to injury, he was only flying in from Bannf, which is a very short flight to Vancouver. Third and finally, when we arrived to check in to our town house, the property management company told us that the hot tub was not working!!!!! GAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!
Thankfully things quickly turned around. Northern Lights moved us from Unit #25 to Unit #15. Although it only has 5 bedrooms instead of six and no sauna, the unit seems to have nicer decor, a working hot tub (key), wine cellar, and heated floors in the bathroom. What is nice about this complex is that its ski in/out. After breakfast this am, all we have to do is slap on our skis and hit a trail that will deliver us to one of the main lifts.
Also, the drive to Whistler was breathtaking, especially along Rt. 99 which takes you right along the Pacific Coast. Brisith Columbia is truly beautiful. Although it was raining through out most of the drive, it quickly turned to snow once we hit a certain alltitude. Watching the instinatious transition of rain drops turning to large snow flakes was cool.
Once we settled in we hit the grocery store for supplies and Devin and I secured our rental skis and lift tickets. The rest of our crew arrives later throughout the week. Stephanie and Carolina arrive on Wednesday, and two more guys arrive on Thursday. The snow here is perfect. Today’s ski report predicts flurries that will contribute to an additional l inch of accumulation. The slopes already have 101 inch base. The temp looks to be around 26 degrees. We are going to be heading out in a couple hours. Can’t wait!
