The below post titled "Atop Blacomb Glacier" was shot and uploaded via my mobile phone. Indeed, most of the pics and posts about Whistler up to now are attributable to mobile blogging via my Motorola Q and Mobile Typepad. However, today I brought my Sony Cybershot and was able to take some higher quality photographs of my expreinces. This was particularly nice today as I skied my first glacier.
In North America, Whistler Blackcomb, located in BC, Canada, is the only resort that offers downhill glacier skiing. Sitting atop Blackcomb Mountain, the glacier rests at 7,347 feet elevation and runs 6.5 miles before you reach the nearest chair left (Excelerator).
To reach the Glacier we had to take several chair lifts, a t-bar lift, and hike up a small incline. Once on top, the mouth of the glacier cuts around in a semi-circular bowl. This serves as the entrance to the trail. By far, this is one of the most breathtaking and memorable expereinces I have had. I plan to do this run at least once every day for the remainder of the trip.
Below is a map of Blackcomb/Whistler where I drew an arrow to highlight where on the mountain the glacier is located (marked by a black arrow located in the top left of the image).
