If anyone has read the post before this, you may have been left wondering where I ended up after checking out of the Seven Hills. Thankfully, the Cranwell Resort Spa and Golf Club was literally just 2 miles down the road.
Ironically, this was the first place where I had attempted to make reservations earlier this week ( PetTravel.com had listed this property as Pet Friendly as well). Unfortunately, they were listed as having "No Vacancy". In a last ditch desperate attempt, I walked into their lobby on Friday evening at around 10pm and queried them if anyone had canceled for this weekend. Luckily, someone did (note: Trumpets and Angels Singing in the background). HEAVEN!!!!!
Recipient of the coveted Four Diamond Award for excellence from the American Automobile Association, the 380-acre resort features 107 distinctive guest rooms and suites, a spectacular 18-hole championship golf course, and the new 35,000 square-foot Spa with a state-of-the-art Fitness Center and glass-enclosed indoor heated pool and walkways.
To add to my delight, while reading about the history of this resort, I discovered that one of its early owners (John Sloane, a relative of the Vanderbilts and co-owner of the famous furniture firm, W & J Sloane) had commissioned Frederick Law Olmsted to design the grounds. Having just finished the book Devil in the White City, where Olmsted was highlighted as a central character, I thought it to be interesting and timely to stay someplace he played a part in creating.
